How To Choose The Best And Most Effective Hair Dryer 2022

Is it possible to find a hair dryer that gives you a salon-like treatment and keeps your hair healthy? Below you will find the safest and fastest hair dryers on the market.

If you think the health of your hair is worth more than just buying a generic hair dryer, maybe you should read this.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned after 20 years of making women’s hair look beautiful, it’s that the hair tools we use can either make or break our hair.

And using the right hair dryer is no exception.

Buying low quality hair dryers will damage your hair, cause burns and waste 35 minutes of your time a day to dry your hair completely.

Most people are surprised by the fact that investing in a quality hair dryer provides you a salon-at-home treatment in less than 15 minutes – without any heat damage or burns!

When I suggest that someone invests in a quality hair dryer, I often get asked:

Is It Worth It To Buy a Better Hair Dryer?

Let me ask you a question: “How many times did you burn your hair while drying it?”

Or.. how much time did you spend last time drying your hair?

In fact, around 90% of bad hair problems come from using a poor quality hair dryer. Yes, you read that right.

Although it may be a good idea to invest in a better hair dryer, there are some models that have a high price but their performance is terrible.

It is easy to choose low quality hair dryers as some brands can easily trick you into believing what they promise with their marketing tricks.

Lucky for you, all the hard work is done, spending weeks researching different brands and talking to their customers.

Before we reveal our top picks, let’s talk about a few more benefits of using a high-quality hair dryer:

Advantages of using a good hair dryer:

The good, the bad and the worst: not all hair dryers are created equal

Don’t go on Amazon and pick one of their best sellers just yet!

When we tested some of the best selling hair dryers, we were really disappointed by how some of these brands trick people into buying.

There is important information you need to know before buying a hair dryer so that you don’t waste your money on a poor quality hair dryer.

Fortunately, everything is done for you. Based on expert advice, in-depth research and honest feedback from informed customers, here are the most important considerations to look for when choosing a hair dryer:

Checklist When Buying a Good Hair Dryer:

Powerful airflow: The best metric to look at is how strong the airflow is in meters per second (M/S). We found that dryers with at least 50 M/S can reduce most consumers’ drying time by up to 50%!

Intelligent temperature monitoring: If you want full protection against heat damage to your hair when drying, you must look for a model with temperature monitoring. Usually, this is an advantage that only advanced hair dryers have, as it is difficult to implement in the design of a regular hair dryer.

Delayed shutdown system: Many hair dryer motors are designed in such a way that they wear out quickly when used frequently. In detail, when an engine goes from very hot to cold in a short period of time, the engine will wear out much faster.

Adjustable heat settings: Not all hair types are created equal, so be sure to find a good blow dryer with adjustable heat and speed settings so you can treat your hair with care.

Warranty: Look for brands that have a money-back guarantee and warranty.

What to avoid in hair dryers:

Lack of different heat and speed settings: Another misconception consumers have about hair dryer power is that there is a specific wattage level for each hair type. If you have a hair dryer that is powerful enough, with enough settings, it isn’t.

Heavy and bulky design: How often do you feel like you’ve gone through an entire upper arm workout after drying your hair? Most conventional hair dryers can be quite heavy and quite bulky, so be sure to choose a lighter version.

Noisy models: If a hair dryer produces a lot of noise, it will most likely disturb your family members. Be sure to look for a quieter version.

CONS

The Osmo HairoDry Pro is by far the best hair dryer we have tested over 58 other models.

The first thing that is impressive about this hair dryer is its advanced heat protection technology. It works by controlling the temperature 46 times per second to ensure you’ll never experience burnt hair again.

Plus, we love that it suits all hair types. With 12 different heat and speed settings, the Osmo HairoDry Pro provides a salon-like treatment even if you have the most sensitive scalp and hair.

What surprised us is how light this hair dryer is, yet so powerful.

It weighs less than 0.8lbs (about two smartphones) and has a high-speed airflow of 60m/s.

It is extremely quiet. This is very important if you like to dry your hair early in the morning or late at night and you don’t want to wake other households.

Without a doubt, this hair dryer is worth the money. In our opinion, we thought a hair dryer with this kind of features would cost twice as much.

In addition, Osmo offers a 90-day money-back guarantee. You can still use it for 3 months and if you don’t find it useful – you get a full refund.

The Dyson Supersonic is one of the models I get the most questions about, and it’s no wonder.

There has been a lot of buzz around this hair dryer since it came out with its breakthrough technology in 2016.

Previously we used the Dyson Supersonic in our salons, but have now switched to the Osmo Pro.

That’s not to say the Dyson is bad, this is probably one of the best hair dryers you can get your hands on, but it still has some downsides when you compare it to other options.

It’s pretty heavy and will most likely be a bit tough on your arms and it’s noisy.

However, the airflow is good and it dries the hair quite quickly.

It also comes with tons of cool accessories.

PROS

CONS

Gama IQ Perfetto was another interesting candidate that came 3rd in our test.

As it was actually the lightest hair dryer in the test, it was easy to dry and style the hair, and this is something we really liked about it.

In addition, it has a nice temperature control, although we could not get information on how many times per second the temperature is monitored.

Unlike some of the other hair dryers, it came with 3 nice accessories, including a diffuser.

On the other hand, there were a few things we didn’t like very much about the Gama IQ Perfetto.

There’s no negative ion technology, so if you’re someone who generally struggles with frizzy hair, this isn’t the best option.

Also, it was quite messy and there were fewer heat and speed combinations compared to other models.

Finally, the Gama IQ Perfetto is quite expensive and it doesn’t appear to have a delayed shutdown system, so I wouldn’t be sure of its long-term durability.

4. T3 Cura Luxe

PROS

CONS

In 4th place we have T3 Cura Luxe.

This is also a hair dryer that has been getting some buzz lately, so of course we had to test it out.

We had good results with it, as there was a good variety of heat and speed combinations, but a little less than others (10 combinations), and it also has a good negative ion system.

While there was a good amount of settings and a nicely implemented negative ion system, the T3 Cura Luxe lacked a diffuser, nor did it have temperature control to protect against damage from overheating.

Also, it was one of the more expensive options, and as far as we could tell, it didn’t have a delayed shutdown system either.

5. Harry Josh Ultra Light

PROS

CONS

The Harry Josh Ultra Light also came out as a good hair dryer in our test.

With 12 different combinations and a decent air flow, we managed to create many nice hairstyles, not in the fastest time, but the result was nice.

What could have made the styling even better was if there had been a diffuser included, unfortunately there wasn’t.

It was a bit heavier to handle than the other (526g) and the price tag was definitely also something that pushed it down the list a bit, from a ‘value for money’ perspective.
